A Community Celebration of The Giller Gala


Overview

Kitchener Public Library will be hosting the Giller Gala: a co-sponsored event with ImagineIt.

Arrive on the red carpet, have a drink, vote for your favourite book, and take part in an evening of discussion about this year’s Giller shortlist. Each guest will defend one title, then we’ll watch the Giller Gala live on the big screen.

Evan Munday is the illustrator of the novels Stripmalling and DOOM: Love Poems for Supervillains, as well as the self-published comic book, Quarter-Life Crisis. He also wrote a Silver Birch-nominated series of novels for young adults, The Dead Kid Detective Agency. He worked for eight years as a book publicist for Coach House Books, and now does a variety of work including ebook conversion, illustration, and bookselling.

Vicky Mochama is the national columnist for Metro News Canada. She writes about race, gender, politics, culture and anything else she can get her brain around. Before joining Metro, Vicky wrote for Vice, The Globe and Mail and Hazlitt. She is the former co-host of Commons, a political podcast on the Canadaland network as well as writing Not Sorry, a weekly humour newsletter on media and politics.

Elamin Abdelmahmoud is the social media editor at BuzzFeed Canada and Editor, News Curation at BuzzFeed News. He is a panelist and columnist for CBC's The National, and he teaches at Ryerson University's journalism program in Toronto. Before BuzzFeed News, he worked for TVO's The Agenda With Steve Paikin and CBC News.

Ashley Csanady Ashley Csanady is a reporter and web producer with the National Post, as well as Friday host of National Post Radio on Sirius XM Canada Talks and co-host of the podcast Canadaland Commons. Prior to that, she worked for Queen’s Park Briefing and the Waterloo Region Record. Her other passions include federal and American politics, issues of gender and equity, and the Canadian food and wine scene.

Brian Francis is the author of two novels, Natural Order and Fruit, which was a Canada Reads finalist. He teaches creative writing as part of the International Festival of Authors, writes a monthly advice column, Ask the Agony Editor, for Quill and Quire magazine, and is a regular contributor to CBC Radio's The Next Chapter.
