Accessibility and Inclusion
The City of Kitchener is committed to offering programs and services to persons of all ages and abilities. Our goal is to provide inclusive opportunitiesthat encourage residents full participation in our programs, services, facilities, volunteer opportunities, and our advisory committees.
With advice and support of the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee(GRAAC), and through facilitation and delivery of leisure programs, volunteer opportunities and barrier-free consultation, and in accordance with Kitchener'sAccessibility Plan, Inclusion Services works in partnership with staff and community stakeholders to ensure accessibility and inclusion. Services are available for both Kitchener and Waterloo residents.
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
We also work hard to ensure we meet or exceed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities standards established by the Ontario government. Accessibility standards are the rules that businesses and organizations in Ontario will have to follow to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility. There are standards for many important areas of life including:
- customer service
- information and communications
- public transportation
- built environment (buildings and other structures)
The City of Kitchener's Accessibility Policy has been approved to ensure that our goods and services are accessible to everyone.
"The city values the contributions and participation of all citizens in the life of the city. To facilitate this involvement, the city is committed to providing goods and services that are accessible to all."
